Crime Stoppers “Turn in a Dealer Night” Report
On Thursday, October 25, from 6-9PM, agents from the Comal County Metro Narcotics Task Force manned the Crime Stoppers phone lines to take tips on drug activity throughout the greater New Braunfels area.
This special night coincided with Red Ribbon Week, October 21- 31, 2007.
Of course, the Crime Stoppers Hotline is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to receive tips on all types of crimes.
Several days prior to the event, Crime Stoppers sent out a release to all area media outlets, and the response was tremendous. We got assistance from all the electronic and printed media, including the San Antonio markets, and the results show the effectiveness of they’re power to reach the public.
Just during that evening event, we received 45 calls reporting drug activities. 17 of those were for the New Braunfels/ Comal County area. Others were referred to the San Antonio program. Several tips came from areas south of San Antonio, and those tips were taken and sent to the appropriate Crime Stoppers programs in those jurisdictions. Since that day, our program has received an average of 2-3 residual calls every day.
This is the best response the event has had in recent memory. The concern and reporting of drug activity by the public in the San Antonio area is encouraging to those in law enforcement attempting to protect our communities in the fight against drugs and crime, which comes with it.
Using the Crime Stoppers program ensures that the caller will remain anonymous. There is no caller ID, and the lines are not recorded, so there is no way for the caller to be identified. Each caller will be issued a tip number, and all transactions will be done with that number from that point on. Even the rewards payments, if approved by the board, are conducted in a way that the tipster is never identified.
Crime Stoppers wishes to thank all those who called, no matter where they called from, and forwards all tips to the appropriate law enforcement agency for investigation.
Crime Stoppers will pay a cash reward of up to $1,000.00 for information leading to the arrest of the person(s) responsible for the commission of these crimes. All calls are confidential and the caller will remain anonymous.
